The Cedar Falls City Council will be considering Craig Berte for appointment to Public Safety Director during the Council meeting on June 20, 2022.
Berte has been part of the Cedar Falls Public Safety Department since 1991, serving as a Police Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Director/Assistant Police Chief, and Police Chief. He currently serves as the Acting Public Safety Director following the retirement of former Director Jeff Olson in March 2022. Berte is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology.
Following an interview process that included three finalists taken from a total of seven applicants, the Public Safety Director Selection Committee (comprised of Cedar Falls Mayor Rob Green, Mayor Pro Tem Simon Harding, Administration Committee Chair Kelly Dunn, and City Administrator Ron Gaines as well as the City Department Directors) recommended Berte for the position.
The City will continue to provide updates to the community as the selection process moves forward.
