Ashley Hinson, U.S. Congresswoman representing Iowa’s 2nd district, addressed recent developments in immigration enforcement and government service changes through a series of posts on her official Twitter account in early August 2025.
On August 4, Hinson referenced testimony from Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons before the House Appropriations Committee, focusing on the impact of local jurisdictions not cooperating with law enforcement. She stated: "Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons testified before @HouseAppropsGOP in May, and I asked him about the consequences communities face when local jurisdictions refuse to cooperate with law enforcement. 42-year-old mother Maria Santos Pleitez and her daughter Dayanara Cortes would" (August 4, 2025).
The following day, Hinson discussed updates to Social Security payment methods under the Trump administration. She wrote: ".@SocialSecurity is transitioning to all direct deposit or prepaid debit cards as part of the Trump Admin’s efforts to make government services more efficient for taxpayers! As always, if you have questions about these changes or need help with any government agency, please" (August 5, 2025).
Later that same day, Hinson cited Fox News regarding border apprehension statistics and praised recent immigration policy outcomes. She posted: ".@FoxNews : “July saw only 4,399 apprehensions compared to Biden-era peak of 249,785 in December 2023." Another month of ZERO releases of illegal aliens into the U.S. — President Trump is fixing Biden’s disaster and protecting our homeland. Promises made, promises kept!" (August 5, 2025).
Hinson has represented Iowa's 2nd District in Congress since replacing Abby Finkenauer in 2021. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2017 to 2021. Born in Des Moines in 1983 and currently residing in Marion, Hinson holds a BA from the University of Southern California.
