Ashley Hinson, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Iowa's 2nd district since 2021, recently shared updates on her legislative activities through a series of tweets. These updates provide insight into her efforts to secure funding for essential programs and introduce new legislation aimed at improving healthcare access.

On June 11, 2025, Hinson announced that she had secured a $100 million increase for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program by reallocating funds initially intended to enhance the IRS under Biden-era policies. "I just secured a $100 million increase for WIC—a program to help feed low-income women & children—by rescinding Biden-era funding to supercharge the IRS!" This decision was part of a markup update with the House Appropriations Committee.

Later that day, Hinson introduced bipartisan legislation aimed at revising an outdated Medicare policy affecting Iowans' access to preventative healthcare services. She emphasized her commitment to expanding high-quality healthcare access through this initiative. "I introduced bipartisan legislation to fix an outdated Medicare policy that limits Iowans' access to preventative healthcare services."

On June 12, 2025, Hinson mentioned an upcoming House vote on President Trump's first rescission package. The package aims to formalize budget cuts in various areas, including funds allocated for "sedentary migrants" in Columbia, electric buses in Rwanda, and sexual reproductive health initiatives in Venezuela. "Today, the House will vote on President Trump’s first rescission package to codify DOGE cuts including: $4 million to 'sedentary migrants' in Columbia $500,000 for electric buses in Rwanda $3 million to fund sexual reproductive health in Venezuela…"

Hinson's political career began in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2017 until she assumed office as a U.S. Congress member in 2021. Born in Des Moines and currently residing in Marion, Iowa, she graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA degree.
