Ashley Hinson, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Iowa’s 2nd district since 2021, recently shared her thoughts on several pressing issues through social media posts. Hinson, who succeeded Abby Finkenauer and previously served in the Iowa House of Representatives, has been vocal about fiscal responsibility and national security.
On June 3, 2025, Hinson reported that "The Trump White House just sent us their rescissions package, a formal request to cut $9.4 billion worth of wasteful spending identified by DOGE — from $67,000 for testing insect powder nutrition on children in Madagascar to $3 million for Iraqi Sesame Street." She emphasized the need to continue addressing unnecessary expenditures. "We must continue".
Later that day, she commented on military policies stating that "Ever since @SecDef and @POTUS ended the days of our military being a testing ground for woke social experiments, brave men and women are lining up to serve our great nation and defend our freedoms." She highlighted that this shift was in response to public demand for "common sense" measures. "The American people asked for common sense to be restored".
On June 4, 2025, Hinson addressed concerns over national security involving foreign nationals. She stated that "Two Chinese nationals were charged yesterday for smuggling a dangerous biological pathogen & agroterrorism agent into the US to 'study' at the University of Michigan." This incident is part of a broader pattern she describes as "Chinese nationals with links to the CCP exploiting our higher education system." "This is just the latest example".
Hinson was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1983 and currently resides in Marion. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2004.
