Waterloo Fiber Internet Announces General Manger Of Telecommunications

Waterloo Fiber Internet, the city’s new locally owned and operated municipal fiber internet utility, is proud to announce that Eric Lage has been appointed as the first General Manager of Telecommunications for the utility. Lage served as the General Manager of Reinbeck Telecommunications Utility for nine years. He brings to Waterloo a well-rounded knowledge of municipal utility operations. Under his leadership, Reinbeck Telecommunications Utility expanded service throughout the community and surrounding area. Lage has a Civil and Construction Engineering Technology degree from Hawkeye Community College and has comprehensive knowledge and experience in broadband technologies, project management, broadband sales, and marketing. Lage also serves as a board member of the Iowa Heartland Chapter of the Society of Cable Television Engineers. Lage states “I am both excited and honored to have the opportunity to be a part of Waterloo Fiber, especially knowing the great benefit it will bring to Waterloo's residents and businesses. As the project takes off, I look forward to putting my experience and knowledge to work. I would like to give a special thanks to my family for their support”.

We look forward to him leading Waterloo Fiber Internet into the future,” said Quentin Hart, Mayor of Waterloo. “Eric’s operational and management successes in municipal telecommunications made him a stand out candidate for Waterloo Fiber’s General Manager of Telecommunications position. We are thrilled he has accepted this important role. Our board has full confidence in his abilities to meet our vision of providing locally owned fiber internet, with the lowest subscriber cost and superior customer service, to every business and resident in Waterloo,” said Andy Van Fleet, Waterloo Fiber Internet Board Chair. Lage was officially appointed as General Manager of Telecommunications at Waterloo Fiber Internet’s board meeting on Wednesday, July 5th at 4:00 pm at Waterloo City Hall.

Also at the July 5th meeting, the utility board approved awarding the of bid for the FY2023 Fiber-to-Premise Feeder/Distribution and Backbone Network Project, Contract No. 1088 to ITG Communications, LLC of Hendersonville, Tennessee. The construction of this $77,864,565.10 fiber internet system will bring high speed fiber internet to residents and businesses of Waterloo. The joint project between the City of Waterloo and Waterloo Fiber Internet will see construction commence later this summer. Lage’s leadership and construction management experience will be an asset to ensuring the projects successful completion.
