Iowa set to receive more than 99,000 COVID vaccines for children 5-11

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gave a green signal to the Pfizer vaccine for children between the age group of 5 and 11 to provide immunization against COVID-19.

"Yesterday, the @CDCgov Director endorsed the CDC's ACIP recommendation that children 5-11 be vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Distribution of the pediatric vaccine will scale up to full capacity next week. Read more: https://bit.ly/3bz8Hwy #RxNews," the Iowas Pharmacy Association tweeted Nov. 3.

The Iowa Department of Public Health reported that it expects to receive 99,000 doses by Nov. 4, Iowa Capital Dispatch reported.

The pediatric dose for the COVID-19 vaccine is a third of the amount of the adult dose, the Des Moines Register reported.

As per the vaccine trial performed by Pfizer on more than 3,000 children, an efficacy rate of 90.7% has been found in the age group of 5-11, Iowa Capital Dispatch reported.
