Ashley Hinson highlights House approval of Trump’s rescissions package targeting federal spending

Ashley Hinson, U.S. Congresswoman representing Iowa’s 2nd district, announced on July 18, 2025, her support for the House passage of President Trump’s rescissions request, which aims to codify $9 billion in DOGE savings and reduce funding for certain federal programs.

In a statement posted to her social media account, Hinson wrote: "My statement on the House passage of President Trump’s rescissions request to codify $9 Billion in DOGE savings & slash woke programs https://t.co/c0wjqfaZF6" (July 18, 2025).

Hinson followed up with details about the legislation's progress and some of the specific spending items targeted by the rescissions package. She stated: "The rescissions package is on the way to @POTUS’ desk! Here are some of the crazy things we voted to claw back:

$18 million to improve gender diversity in the Mexican street lighting industry

$1 million for voter ID in Haiti

$6 million for Net Zero Cities in" (July 18, 2025).

She continued by listing additional items included in the package: " $3 million for Iraqi Sesame Street

$6.2 million to address the needs of Venezuelan migrants in Columbia

$2.1 million for climate resilience in Southeast Asia, Latin America, and East Africa" (July 18, 2025).

Ashley Hinson has served as a member of Congress since replacing Abby Finkenauer in Iowa’s 2nd district in 2021. Before her election to Congress, she served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2017 to 2021. Born in Des Moines in 1983 and currently residing in Marion, Hinson holds a BA from the University of Southern California.
