Ashley Hinson, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Iowa’s 2nd district since 2021, posted a series of tweets on July 18, 2025, highlighting various international aid expenditures.
In her first tweet, Hinson listed several spending items: " $21 million on wind farms in Ukraine $500,000 for electric buses in Rwanda $33,000 for Being LGBTI in the Caribbean" (July 18, 2025).
A subsequent post included more examples: " $643,000 for LGBTQI+ programs in the Western Balkans $2.4 million to make aid more considerate of sexual orientation and gender identity $2.5 million to teach children how to make environmentally-friendly reproductive health decisions" (July 18, 2025).
In a third tweet from the same day, Hinson continued: " $4.4 million for the Melanesian Youth Climate Corps $3.3 million for civic engagement in Zimbabwe $882,000 to fund social media mentorship in Serbia and Belarus" (July 18, 2025).
Ashley Hinson has served as the representative for Iowa’s 2nd District since replacing Abby Finkenauer in Congress in 2021. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from 2017 to 2021. Born in Des Moines in 1983 and currently residing in Marion, Hinson graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2004.
