RedTail Track & Field student-athlete Aaron Campbell has been named Scheels Male Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Region XI Indoor Championship on February 17-18.
Campbell became a star of the weekend with his incredible debut into the Heptathlon at the Region XI Indoor Championship! Campbell's stats through his first ever heptathlon were: 60m: 8.08, Long jump: 5.46m (PR), Shot Put: 12.47m (PR & fifth in school history), High Jump: 1.85m (PR & fourth in school history), 60H: 11.93, Pole Vault: 2.60m (PR & school record), and 1000m: 3:03.76 (PR). All these marks scored him an impressive 3,443 points in the Heptathlon, which puts him second on the Hawkeye All-Time list in the Heptathlon.
"Aaron's performance this weekend was nothing short of amazing," said coach Hunter Lavallee. "Campbell, along with his teammate Travis Brace, quickly gained an audience from the team as the event continued. Aaron showed his skills as he hit the high jump and shot put portions on Friday night clearing an outstanding height of 1.85m after following an incredible PR of 12.47m in the shot put. Word spread through the team overnight and had the team cheering the pair on as they hit the pole vault, which ended with Campbell breaking the school record at a height of 2.60m. Campbell attacked the 1000m to cap off an incredible performance. With more practice and more reps, there's no doubt that Aaron will be a force come outdoor season in the Decathlon."
