A man killed by the Waterloo Police was identified.
Brent Lee Boggess was killed by Waterloo police officer Ken Schaaf, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reported.
"Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Brent Lee Boggess (42 Years old). Leave your condolences, photos and videos on his commemorative page and pay homage to him or send flowers to show you care," the Obituaries in Waterloo — Iowa Facebook page said in a post to its official account Nov. 19.
Schaaf is currently on leave waiting for the completion of the investigation, The Associated Press reported. The encounter happened as Schaaf engaged in a short vehicle chase against Boggess, in which several other police cars joined. Boggess was shot after he refused to get into the police car.
Boggess was initially identified by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations, according to the AP. It is alleged that the shooting occurred after Boggess had been driving recklessly and attempted to ram a police car with his car. Ultimately the officers had tried to converge to form a road block, with Boggess deciding not to get out of his car, according to the AP.
Boggess was born in 1979 in Alexandria, Minnesota, and previously resided in Waterloo. He is survived by a wife, mother, three sons, a stepson and grandmother.
