Ashley Hinson, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Iowa’s 2nd district, posted a series of statements on social media in response to recent events, including the death of Charlie Kirk and the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
On September 10, 2025, Hinson wrote about the passing of Charlie Kirk following a shooting: "After today’s horrific shooting, I was praying for a miracle and am heartbroken that Charlie Kirk has passed away. Charlie was passionate & charismatic, dedicating his life to engaging with young people. I am devastated for his wife, Erika, and two children, and will be keeping".
The following day, September 11, she marked the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks: "Today is a heavy day as we remember the thousands of American lives lost on 9/11. On 9/11 we experienced the worst of humanity — pure evil. But we also saw the best of American resolve. Amidst the pain & chaos, first responders and American heroes ran toward danger to save their".
On September 12, Hinson responded to reactions surrounding Kirk's death: "Vile & indefensible. She should be fired immediately, @iowastateu. Anyone who is celebrating the politically motivated assassination of Charlie Kirk — a husband & father to two young kids — shouldn’t be anywhere near Iowa’s school system."
Hinson has represented Iowa’s 2nd District in Congress since replacing Abby Finkenauer in 2021. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2017 to 2021. Born in Des Moines in 1983 and currently residing in Marion, Hinson holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California.
