RedTail Men’s Bowling Competes at Leatherneck Classic

The Hawkeye RedTail Men's Bowling Team traveled to the Quad Cities November 12-13, 2022 to compete at the Leatherneck Classic. The men placed 26th out of 45 finishing with a total of 8,496 pins, which should help year-end points to qualify for postseason events.

The highest placing RedTail was Jacob Mattison, who rolled a total of 1219 and placed 60th out of 426. Mattison averaged 203.2 pins in six games.

"Jacob made a lot of great shots this past weekend at the Leatherneck Classic," said head coach Roger Taylor. The rest of the RedTails were able to draw from Mattison's stellar performance to place the highest they ever have at this event. Alex Sturbaum knocked down 1,094 pins over the weekend, finishing in 128th place overall and the second-highest placing RedTail at the event.

"Overall, we see great progression with each tournament we compete in and if we keep going at the pace that we are, we can see some great success as we head into our postseason events," Taylor said of both the men's and women's teams. "Our assistant, Joe Squires, and myself are very excited about how far this team can go, and this is just the start of something great."
