RedTail track and field runner Maci Freund has been named Scheels Female Athlete of the Week for her performances in the Kip Janvrin Invite at Simpson College on April 29 and at Drake Relays at Drake University on April 30.
Maci had a great weekend running at both the Kip Janvrin Invite and Drake Relays. Maci broke the school record in the open 400-meter on Friday at Simpson College with a time of 1:00.16. She turned around the next day and was a part of the Sprint Medley Relay at Drake on Saturday helping the team finish with a time of 4:13.22.
"We're very excited to see Maci break the school record in the 400m, she's very close to breaking the 60 second barrier which has been her goal for the year," said coach Tyler Mulder. "She's looking great going into the Regional Championships!"
"During this race, I didn't want to make any more excuses and I wanted to leave that day feeling proud of what I did," says Maci. "I pushed away the fear and trusted the training as well as got help from my teammates with their constant support. My goal for this season was to get under a minute in the 400 so this brought me even closer to that goal."
