A state lawmaker is backing residents who believe seceding from the union is what's best, while pinning blame on liberal politics.

Columnist Rekha Basu wrote an opinion piece before the rally conducted by Donald Trump on Saturday, Oct. 9, where she lamented how the former president still claims a stolen election to which state Rep. Steven Holt (R-Denison) responded. He condemned Rekha for remaining oblivious to the bunch of reasons why 52% of Trump supporters want to secede from the U.S., Raw Story reported.

"Iowa GOP lawmaker defends Trump fans who want to secede: They want 'to preserve the principles of our republic' https://rawstory.com/our-only-alternative-is-a-reset-iowa-gop-lawmaker-sides-with-trump-fans-who-want-to-secede/… You insurrectionist bastards can have Council Bluffs and Ottumwa for starters. Let us know if you need more space,” Twitter user Amy G. Dala said a tweet.

Holt said that liberal politics is making America "socialist," the Des Moines Register reported. He also mentioned that 52% of Trump supporters are in favor of seceding in order to preserve American principles.

"I read with amused frustration Rehka Basu's Oct. 8 opinion piece in which she spoke of the parallel universe she felt she was living in, seemingly oblivious to the reasons that 52% of Donald Trump supporters favor seceding from the Union," Holt wrote, according to Raw Story. "Rekha, those 52% understand what America once was and what it is becoming. They cherish their freedom and liberty, they understand the importance of our founding values, and they see the destruction of those values taking place before their eyes."

Holt agreed that America is currently divided in ideologies and said that the divide might be too big to resolve.

He agreed with the people that want to secede and said that America is on a destructive path.
