The Waterloo Police Department (WPD) and the City of Waterloo have formed a partnership with location-based safety network Atlas One to help keep residents safe.
Being the first city in Iowa to work with Atlas One, officials are urging residents to download the company’s free mobile application to receive real-time alerts based on geographic locations they deem important, a press release issued by the city said.
City leaders will send geo-fenced push notification alerts when a public safety issue occurs. These alerts may have text, photos, videos, documents and even audio recordings.
The app also allows residents to access existing WPD resources and services.
Waterloo chose Atlas One because of its ability to expand residents’ access to real-time information while protecting the right to user privacy.
Dr. Joel Fitzgerald, Waterloo Police Chief, said residents can share their location knowing their data is protected.
