City of Cedar Falls issued the following announcement on Sept. 18
The Cedar Falls Public Safety Department is proud to once again join ‘The Pink Patch Project’ this October to support breast cancer awareness. The Pink Patch Project (PPP) is a collaborative effort between the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs’ Association and more than 390 public safety agencies across the nation.
The Pink Patch Project centers on a bright pink version of the police and fire uniform patches. Members of the Public Safety team can choose to wear these patches on their regular uniform beginning September 16 through the end of October. The patches are intended to open lines of communication between citizens and encourage discussion about the importance of early detection and treatment in the ongoing fight against the disease.
To help raise funds for those affected by breast cancer, the Cedar Falls Public Safety Department will also be selling the pink patches to the community. All proceeds will be donated to the Beyond Pink TEAM. Both police and fire patches are available. Patches can be purchased at the Cedar Falls Public Safety Building, located at 4600 South Main Street and Cedar Falls City Hall, located at 220 Clay Street. They will also be available at a wide variety of community events throughout October.
In addition to the pink patches, a police SUV has been striped with pink and displays the pink ribbons. The SUV is being used daily by officers while on patrol.
“Last year was the first year we participated in the Pink Patch Project and we were able to donate more than $2,800 dollars to help the Beyond Pink TEAM,” said Cedar Falls Lieutenant Kelli Yates. “Our team is very excited to be participating again this year. We are looking forward to how the funds will help our community locally and make a difference for those affected by the disease.”
