U.S. Representative Ashley Hinson, who represents Iowa’s 2nd district in Congress, shared several updates on social media this week addressing local education leadership, military honors, and support for Iowa's biofuels sector.
On October 1, 2025, Hinson criticized a recent hiring decision by the Des Moines School Board. She wrote, "The Des Moines School Board hired Roberts knowing he had lied about his resume! This illegal immigrant con man with a weapons charge and an active deportation order shouldn’t have been anywhere near our kids, much less running the largest school system in the state." The post called attention to concerns regarding school administration and student safety.
The following day, October 2, 2025, Hinson highlighted her participation in a ceremony honoring a World War II veteran. She stated, "It was an honor to present medals to the family of Staff Sgt Roger Schaefer, a WWII hero who dedicated his life to defending our country and even served in the Battle of the Bulge, for which he received Bronze and Silver Stars. On one occasion, he singlehandedly neutralized two". The tweet emphasized recognition for military service within her constituency.
Later that same day, Hinson underscored her ongoing advocacy for Iowa’s agricultural economy through biofuels policy. She posted: "A strong biofuels industry is crucial for our rural economy in Iowa. Proud to work with Senator Grassley and Administrator Zeldin to ensure that American farmers and biofuels producers can lead our strategy for energy dominance ".
Hinson has represented Iowa’s 2nd congressional district since 2021 after succeeding Abby Finkenauer. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2017 to 2021. Born in Des Moines in 1983 and currently residing in Marion, Hinson graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA degree in 2004.
