The City of Waterloo is proud to announce that Battalion Chief William (Bill) Beck has been named Fire Chief for the City of Waterloo. Battalion Chief Beck started with Waterloo Fire Department in 2004 and has served in multiple positions. Beck is currently pursuing Masters of Science in Fire Executive Leadership with a focus on Public Administration from Columbia Southern University. He also has a Bachelor of Arts in Natural History Interpretation from the University of Northern Iowa, and completed Hawkeye Community College’s Paramedic and EMT-B programs.
Battalion Chief Beck states “This is an incredible opportunity and I am excited to share my time and talents with the citizens of Waterloo. I would like to thank my wife and 3 kids for their love and support”.
In a letter of recommendation the recommender wrote “I witnessed William strengths, including dependability and strong character grow with each new role he took with the department”. Another recommender stated “he is self-motivated and doesn’t have to ask to do something”.
“We are looking forward to William Beck assuming another leadership role with Waterloo Fire Rescue; this time as its Fire Chief. From Firefighter, Paramedic, Medical Officer, Lieutenant, Battalion Chief, to now Fire Chief, he has truly risen through the ranks in the department. Beck is well respected among his peers and will continue to build on the accomplishments of his predecessors,” said Quentin Hart, Mayor of Waterloo.
On Tuesday, March 14th at 3:30 pm in the Waterloo Council Chambers, Beck will be officially sworn in as Fire Chief. In addition to swearing in ceremony for Fire Chief we will also be swearing in 4th Ward Councilwoman Belinda Creighton-Smith. We would also like to thank Battalion Chief Troy Luck for being our Interim Fire Chief during this transition.
