HOLMES JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 9th Grade Art Students Leave Pawsitive Mark on their Community

Arts

Holmes Junior High School issued the following announcement on June 02.

Art Teacher Ashley Cardamone and her cohort of Advanced Art students decided to end the year on a positive note, and use part of their class time for a service learning project, benefiting the Cedar Bend Humane Society.

Students were able to design their own handmade cards, which were available for students and faculty to purchase. One pack of four cards cost six dollars. Each card featured hand-crafted art from students in Advanced Art 9, mainly featuring some tail-wagging portraits of pups and kitties.

The class was able to raise over $800 dollars for the Humane Society’s Second Chances program, which assists shelter dogs who are fearful, anxious, or have unique behavior issues. These dogs get a second chance to overcome their struggles and find a forever home that is suited to their needs.

Ms. Cardamone had this to say on the project, “I am so proud of the Advanced Art students who worked on this project. They worked together to set a goal that was important to them, and worked incredibly hard to make the amount of quality artwork needed in order to reach their goal. It was a great experience for them to learn that they can use their talents and skills in order to make a difference in our community. It was great to have the opportunity to take action through doing something we love - making art!”
