As the academic year gets off to a start, the Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities (IISC) at the University of Iowa has already matched 17 projects in Waterloo with university departments including law, planning and public affairs, civil and environmental engineering, art, business, criminology, geography, rhetoric and cinema arts.
The IISC program is a partnership program in which the university works with local communities to complete projects related to local environmental, equity, economic and cultural issues, according to a press release from the university. Waterloo was selected along with Manchester to partner with this academic year.
“IISC is thrilled to be partnering with Waterloo. It’s a special place, and the long list of accomplishments in recent years demonstrates that the community has strong leadership and engaged residents,” Travis Kraus, director of the IISC, said in the release. “Waterloo has also proposed many challenging and meaningful project collaborations, which will provide our students with the kind of invaluable learning experiences we look for in these partnerships.”
