City of Waterloo issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.
Waterloo Water Works will re-open its payment center lobby on East Third Street between Sycamore Street and Lafayette Street to the public on Monday August 17th at 8:00 am. Glass barriers were recently installed to help reduce the potential for Covid-19 virus transmission. Customers are asked to wear a facemask while visiting the office. Water Works main offices on Sycamore remain closed to the public, but staff members are able to assist customers with opening or closing accounts using the new service window on the upper floor.
Disconnections for non-payment will begin again on August 31st. This policy halted on March 16, 2020 in order to accommodate those financially impacted by the pandemic. This gives customers two weeks of a fully open payment center and advanced notice to bring their account current to prevent a service interruption.
“We provide many convenient options for individuals to pay their water bills and most of our customers have not been impacted by the payment center closing or have made the necessary adjustments to make their payments,” says Chad Coon Waterloo Water Works General Manager. “Still, we understand it is important to some to come into the payment center in person. We believe we have taken the necessary precautions to protect the public and our employees from virus spread.”
The drive-thru payment window remained open while the lobby was closed.
For convenience, customers are encouraged to pay their bills through the Water Works’ website at www.waterloowater.org or may set up an ACH, electronic payment automatically withdrawn from their bank account. There is no fee for the ACH service. Credit card payments may also be made by phone or online. Processing fees apply. Please call (319) 232-6280 to pay by telephone. Payment may be made by mail addressed to the Waterloo Water Works at P.O. Box 27, Waterloo, IA 50704.
The Customer Service Center provides an after-hours depository box, a drive-up window and free customer parking for walk-in payments. The after-hours depository box is emptied daily and all payments deposited will be credited to your account the following workday. You may also drop off your payment at either of two convenient pay stations located at Crossroads Hy-Vee and Logan Avenue Hy-Vee.
Customers needing to sign up for new service, or those with billing questions, are urged to call the Water Works at (319) 232-6280 prior to arrival to allow staff the opportunity to gather information and have it ready upon your arrival.
