The leaders of Black Hawk County are warning customers to take extra safety precautions as the area rolls out plans for how it will reopen amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The county currently has 1,783 reported cases (the third-highest in Iowa). The Black Hawk Co. Health Dept. Environmental Health Program Manager, Jared Parmater, told CBS 2 that customers shouldn’t expect things to be back to normal when they stop by restaurants that have chosen to reopen.
“The expectation behind this is 'Let’s go out and enjoy our favorite restaurants in the community.' It’s fantastic that these are reopening. But understand that they’re opening under a limited model," he said.
He added that restaurants are looking at customers to leave the venue as soon as they’re done eating, rather than sticking around and fellowshipping with their friends, as many are used to doing pre-coronavirus.
Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson said, according to CBS 2, "Understand that there are enforcement capabilities with regards to the governor's proclamations, under Iowa code chapter 135.”
Those who don’t follow suit could be charged with anything from a misdemeanor to trespassing if they hang out at a restaurant longer than allowed.
