John Deere Waterloo Works will lose 42 employees in May. | Facebook
John Deere Waterloo Works has announced it will be laying off 42 employees indefinitely on May 4 continuing a series of layoffs that began in November.
“We are disappointed to confirm that 42 employees of Waterloo Works and members of UAW Local 838 are going to be placed on indefinite layoff starting May 4th, 2020,” Tim Frickson, president of the United Auto Workers (UAW) 838 Union, said in a statement to KWWL 7.
Jennifer Hartmann, a John Deere spokesperson, told KWWL 7 that this was an effort to "to become a leaner, more efficient organization throughout the enterprise, both in the production and salary workforce."
Following an announcement by John Deere late last year of a voluntary separation program for particular sectors of the U.S., the company laid off over 400 employees throughout Iowa, including
