City of Independence issued the following announcement on Dec. 5. 

The City of Independence will be conducting a sidewalk replacement program in 2020.  This will require any sidewalk that is broken or beyond repair to be replaced.  The City of Independence will be soliciting bids to provide for the most cost effective replacement for any property owner who does not wish to individually cause work required on their sidewalk to be completed.  Notices are anticipated to be mailed out in early 2020.  If you know that you have sidewalk that will require replacement and wish to do the work themselves, please do not wait for notices.  If you have any questions, please contact Building Inspector Todd Sherrets at 319-334-4711 or City Hall at 319-334-2780.
