University of Northern Iowa issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.
TheatreUNI will present "Cabaret" the iconic American musical by Joe Masteroff, John Kander and Fred Ebb at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 20, 21, 22, Dec. 4, 5, 6, and 7, and at 2 p.m., Dec. 8, in the Strayer-Wood Theatre on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
The year is 1929, the place, Berlin. Willkommen, bienevene, welcome to the Kit Kat Klub. Outside, the Third Reich is slowly rising, but inside, life is beautiful. Based on Charles Isherwood’s acclaimed novel, “The Berlin Stories,” “Cabaret” examines the dawn of fascism in Germany through the eyes of Clifford Bradshaw, an American novelist. Join Theatre UNI for an exciting evening of scintillating sound, sophisticated style, and sensational spectacle. Grab a table, order a drink, and join a wild cast of characters for an evening in the Cabaret. At the Kit Kat Klub, you never know how the night will end...
"Cabaret" is the second offering of TheatreUNI’s 2019-20 season. The production is directed by Amy S. Osatinski, assistant professor of directing, and music directed by Jeffrey Brich, Instructor of Applied Voice in the UNI School of Music and Cayla Belamy, assistant professor of Bassoon in the UNI School of Music. Scenic design is by Mark S. Parrott, associate professor of design, and costume design is by Jennifer Sheshko-Wood, associate professor of costume design. Lighting design is by guest artist Chris Wood. The production stage manager is Bonnie Ruble.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for UNI faculty/staff and tickets are free for UNI students with their UNI ID card. Tickets can be purchased from any UNItix location. The Strayer-Wood box office opens one hour before curtain time.
