The Waterloo City Council unanimously decided to allocate $54,000 for renovations to city hall.

Most of the renovations will go toward additional security for the facility located on Mulberry St. Renovations planned so far include second-floor security updates for the building, engineering and planning departments, but City Planning Director Noel Anderson said more security measures throughout city hall are being considered, as reported by the Courier.

The city has contracted with Modern Design out of Janesville to renovate transaction counters, space workings behind transaction counters, assess safety glass and add a new secure access door to the engineering and building departments and new emergency exit doors out of the engineering and building departments, as seen in the Courier.

“We’ve been kind of looking at it in pieces,” Anderson said in reference to the update plans, as reported by the Courier.

When questioned by council member Dave Boesen on whether the City Clerk’s Office might be next for renovations, Anderson said it would make sense to look at that department next, as seen in the Courier.
