The University of Northern Iowa announced on March 24 the launch of new three-year degree pathways, allowing students to complete a bachelor’s degree in just three years. More than 30 majors from the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences are included in this initiative, covering fields such as technology, education, public service, media, and human and natural sciences.
The introduction of these accelerated programs is intended to provide motivated students with a structured plan that enables them to finish their studies more quickly while maintaining academic quality. According to university data for fall 2025, one in seven UNI students graduates within three years.
Mary Black, dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences, said: “Iowa employers need well-prepared graduates entering the workforce. These three-year pathways provide motivated students with a clear, structured route to complete their degree more quickly, saving time while maintaining the high-quality education and experiences for which UNI is known.”
Brenda Bass, dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at UNI said: “These pathways help prepare the next generation of professionals who will serve Iowa’s communities. Graduates from these programs will be equipped with the knowledge, practical experience and skills needed in fields that strengthen Iowa’s workforce and communities.”
In addition to these new options across multiple disciplines, UNI continues to offer an accelerated Elementary Education “Degree in 3” program through its College of Education. This allows students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education to graduate within three years.
Students interested in learning more about eligibility or specific majors can visit UNI’s Three-Year Pathways website or consult an admissions counselor.
