Gov. Kim Reynolds on Jan. 5 announced that Stan Thompson of Clive was named executive director of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission.
Thompson is scheduled to start his new role Jan. 10, according to a release from the Office of the Governor.
“I’m honored to be appointed by Gov. Reynolds to serve as the executive director of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission,” Thompson said, according to the release. “I look forward to performing this important role in protecting Iowans’ civil rights.”
The release stated that before this new position, Thompson served in private practice at Dentons Davis Brown P.C.
“Protecting the civil rights of Iowans is one of the most important functions of state government,” Reynolds said, per the release. “Stan’s extensive experience in business litigation, practicing for the past 36 years, coupled with his knowledge in ethics and professional conduct will make him a valued leader for the commission.”
Thompson has been serving on the Iowa Public Information Board since 2020, according to STL News.
Thompson has a juris doctorate from the George Washington University National Law Center, according to STL News.
Per the release, the appointment of Thompson is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
