The Hawkeyes women’s soccer team recently lost a heartbreaking match to the Purdue Boilermakers women’s soccer team.
SoccerWire tweeted about Iowa’s loss. “Big Ten leader Purdue stuns Iowa in overtime for 6th straight victory,” SoccerWire wrote.
The Hawkeyes lost the away game 2-1 on Sept. 26 as Purdue’s Teagan Jones scored the winning goal in the 98th minute of the extended period marking her first goal of the 2021 season, according to Purdue Sports.
Fifth-year senior Alyssa Walker notched the Hawkeyes only goal, and she leads the Hawkeyes with five goals and 10 points, according ro Hawkeye Sports.
Head coach Dave Dianni said that despite the devastating loss, the team would continue to persevere as conference play is underway.
“I am so proud of our team and the way we played against a very good Purdue side, who’s having a great year,” he said. “Gutted for the ladies that the result was in our grasp and unfortunately we didn’t do enough to control the three points with our controllable details. We continue to grow and get better from this adversity and will be prepared to play next weekend at home.”
After falling to Purdue, the Hawkeyes bounced back and beat Maryland on Sept. 30, 2-0 and lost to Michigan State 2-1 on Oct 3.
The Hawkeyes are 8-4-1 overall and 2-3 in the Big Ten and will look to improve on their record when they travel to Rutgers on Oct. 10.
