RedTail Bowing student-athlete Lauren Funk has been named Scheels Female Athlete of the Week for her performance at the NJCAA National Championship on March 2-4.

The RedTails competed in the NJCAA National Championship last week in Buffalo, New York and Funk finished fourth in doubles with her partner Madison Shontz. She finished second in singles and averaged 202 for 12 games, finishing second in the All-American standings. Funk had three game sets of 666 in singles and 628 in doubles. Her first team set was 496, second team set was 645 for a total of 2,435, and finished with a 12-game total averaging 202.91. Funk medaled second in both the singles event and in the All American standings. Funk performed at Nationals scoring well over her 172 national average throughout the season.

“Lauren is definitely one of our top performers and she was on point during our Nationals run,” said coach Roger Taylor. “We hit a little bit of a speed bump in the first team set that was bowled on Friday, but the girls were going on nine games in one day and were bowling on a tricky oil pattern. Lauren just narrowly missed the top spot in the All American standings by 11 pins, which I’m sure will provide plenty of motivation for next year’s trip to Nationals in Lansing, Michigan. As for the season, Lauren is a strong competitor and her bowling experience helped her make great shots and throw a strong strike ball. She was one of the players who found herself in the anchor position a majority of the time and it was because of her fierce competitive spirit.”

Funk is originally from Tripoli, IA.
