Cedar Falls Public Safety will be offering an American Heart Association-Supported CPR/AED Training and Curriculum class on the first Sunday of every month at the Public Safety Building located at 4600 South Main Street. The training session is open to all members of the public and takes four hours to complete.

Cost of the program is $40 per person and the certification is valid for two years. Families, individuals, businesses, and organizations are all encouraged to attend.

According to the American Heart Association, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year. If performed immediately, CPR can double or triple the chance of survival. When a person experiences a cardiac arrest, survival depends on getting CPR from someone nearby which can be a friend, family member, or co-worker. Unfortunately, only about 46 percent of people get the immediate help they need.

“By providing this training to our community, we hope to give our citizens the knowledge they need to help save a life,” said Cedar Falls Public Safety Captain John Zolondek.

During the class, participants will learn how to perform proper compressions and use an AED in the precious moments before first responders arrive.
