Ashley Hinson, U.S. Congresswoman representing Iowa’s 2nd district, posted a series of updates on her social media account between April 14 and April 15, 2026, addressing public safety concerns in Iowa, national security issues related to China, and tax refund trends.
On April 14, Hinson warned residents about severe weather conditions: “Fast-moving storms are tracking across Northeast Iowa and the state. Please take precautions now—monitor local weather alerts, stay indoors, and keep clear of windows. Stay safe out there.”
The following day, Hinson drew attention to alleged actions by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP): “This should be getting more media attention. Smuggling biohazards—even hidden in underwear shipments—is just one of the CCP’s disturbing tactics to sow chaos here at home. We cannot underestimate China’s willingness to exploit our immigration system, threaten public health, our” (posted on April 15).
Later that day, she commented on federal taxation as Americans marked Tax Day: “Tax Day is a glaring reminder of how much the government takes—and a moment at the kitchen table to ask: are we finally getting a little breathing room? For too long, the answer has been no. But this year, we’re seeing a shift, with refunds up, averaging over $3,400—real money” (April 15).
Ashley Hinson has served in Congress since 2021 after previously working in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2017 to 2021. She was born in Des Moines in 1983 and currently resides in Marion. Hinson graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2004.
