Ashley Hinson, U.S. Congresswoman representing Iowa’s 2nd district, addressed the ongoing government funding impasse in a series of posts on her official X account. Hinson announced her intention to withhold her pay and emphasized continued constituent services during what she referred to as the “Schumer Shutdown.”
On September 30, 2025, Hinson stated: “In the event of a Schumer Shutdown, I will be withholding my pay. Iowans deserve better than this chaos and dysfunction. I urge my Democratic colleagues to work with us and stop demanding a hyper-partisan wish list, including giving illegal aliens taxpayer funded benefits, to https://t.co/MJFOWo0Uu5”.
The following day, she posted: “My statement on the Schumer Shutdown https://t.co/nmtRVV0wfO” (October 1, 2025).
Later that same day, Hinson reassured constituents about continued support from her office: “During the Schumer shutdown, my offices will remain open to serve Iowans. If you have questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to call. We will do everything we can to help.” (October 1, 2025).
Ashley Hinson has represented Iowa’s 2nd District in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Abby Finkenauer. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from 2017 to 2021. Born in Des Moines in 1983 and currently residing in Marion, Hinson graduated from the University of Southern California in 2004.
