Ashley Hinson addresses new bill on family leave and responds to media controversy

Ashley Hinson, U.S. Congresswoman representing Iowa’s 2nd district since 2021, posted several statements on her social media account on September 17, 2025. Her posts covered new legislative efforts, the observance of Constitution Day, and a reaction to recent media commentary.

In her first post of the day, Hinson announced proposed legislation related to family leave for parents who experience stillbirths. She wrote: “New bill drop Under current law, parents don’t have the option to take family leave in the tragic event of a stillbirth. Families who endure such a horrific and painful loss of a baby deserve family leave options while they grieve and heal. I joined forces with” (September 17, 2025).

Later that day, Hinson acknowledged Constitution Day with a message about American freedoms and the nation’s founding principles. She stated: “Happy Constitution Day Today we honor the Founding Fathers’ enduring vision for our great nation. We must continue to protect our precious freedoms!” (September 17, 2025).

In her final post that evening, Hinson criticized television host Jimmy Kimmel regarding comments made about Charlie Kirk. She said: “Jimmy Kimmel peddled a disgusting lie about the political assassination of Charlie Kirk & more than deserves to be pulled off the air.” (September 17, 2025).

Hinson has represented Iowa’s 2nd district in Congress since replacing Abby Finkenauer in 2021. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from 2017 to 2021 and holds a degree from the University of Southern California.
