Hawkeye Community College student Macy Mommer of Strawberry Point is a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship made possible through the American Legion of Iowa Foundation. Macy currently serves in the U.S. Army National Guard as a platoon head medic. This ignited her passion for health care and she is currently pursuing a degree in Nursing. A second recipient of a $1,000 scholarship will be determined in August.

The scholarship was presented by Bob Wenger, District III Foundation Director of the American Legion of Iowa Foundation.  Founded in 1978, the foundation provides financial assistance to promote Americanism, youth programs, veteran’s rehabilitation, and community service in Iowa.
