A bridge lighting celebration of the 4th Street Bridge in Waterloo is set for Thursday, June 1 at 8:45pm. The public is invited. Billed as the Waterloo River Lights Experience, the project is another phase in the Veterans Way Art and History Walk in downtown.

The celebration begins at 7pm at Anton’s Garden, an outdoor beer garden located at 518 Sycamore Street, where the bar will be open with food and music. At 8:45pm, guests will walk to the Vietnam Memorial Monument, 100 East 4th Street (north end of the bridge), where speakers will highlight details of the unique bridge light installation designed to both honor veterans and entertain spectators through its evolving light display illuminating nightly. A ribbon cutting will follow with the inaugural light show starting around 9:15pm.

The Waterloo River Lights Experience was designed by Rob Shakespeare. The Indiana-based professional lighting designer specializes in dramatic architectural designs and the lighting design component of visual accessibility. Shakespeare used interactive light sculptures to visually connect both sides of the river. His projects use sustainable LED light sources that have minimal environmental impact.

Speakers will include; Mayor Quentin Hart/City of Waterloo, Rob Shakespeare/Bridge Light Show Designer, Mary Robinson/Bridge Lighting Comm. Chair, Yolando Loveless/Black Hawk County Veterans Affairs Director and representatives from Black Hawk Gaming Association, Waterloo Development Corporation, Ritland+Kuiper Landscape Architects and Main Street Waterloo.

The 4th Street Bridge will be closed during this event.
