The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced that the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) financed the City of Waterloo Community Development office.

The block grant was from the first round of CDBG-CV funding. According to officials, the grant will be used to combat COVID-19 by helping to prevent the spreading of the virus, according to a City of Waterloo press release.

The grant was provided and approved by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).

Waterloo Community Development officials analyzed applications and accepted requests from qualifying local candidates.

The list of approved organizations receiving grant awards can be found on the City of Waterloo website.

A total of $589,782 was allocated to the qualified candidates. The funds will be used to pay for qualifying projects within the City of Waterloo. Further applications are still in the process of being approved or denied.

Citizens can get more information on CARES Act grant funding, by contacting Rudy Jones, the Director of Waterloo Community Development by calling 319-291-4429 or by emailing Rudy.Jones@Waterloo-IA.org.
